COME AND LOVE ME IN THE POOR.

Cor meaning “heart,” reflects our Catholic call to serve “the least of these.” through a one-year poverty immersion experience that offers the opportunity to serve the guests of Andre House—a Catholic day shelter dedicated to caring for men and women experiencing poverty and homelessness on the streets of Phoenix, AZ.

We're on a mission to make God known, loved, and served.

WHY SPEND A YEAR WITH COR?

Discover Christ in the poor.

As a Cor Team member, you’ll take an active role in serving our guests by running our dinner service, clothing distribution, facilitating shower service, and other key services—all while guiding and inspiring volunteers. Through these acts of love and compassion, you will encounter Christ in those you serve, allowing His presence to transform your heart and actions.

Build a foundation of prayer.

Prayer anchors everything we do at Andre House. As a Cor Team member, you’ll participate in daily communal prayer, including the Liturgy of the Hours, personal reflection, and the celebration of the Eucharist. This rhythm of prayer deepens your trust in Divine Providence and strengthens your relationship with Christ, equipping you to serve with love and resilience.

Grow in virtue through communal living.

As a Cor Team member, you’ll live in intentional community, with men and women residing in separate but adjacent houses. Together, you’ll share meals, pray the Liturgy of the Hours, and support one another in daily service. You’ll also join in retreats, outings, seminars, and shared experiences like cooking and fellowship.

Thrive through beauty adventure and leisure.

Adventures and pilgrimages during the Cor year immerse us in the beauty of creation and the richness of Catholic tradition. Activities like hiking, camping, and a pilgrimage to the Oratory of St. Joseph in Canada connect us with the sacred and the communal while exploring the intellectual history of Catholic Social Teaching.

No fundraising required.

We believe your service is valuable, and we want you to focus on what truly matters—growing in your relationship with Christ while serving those most in need. That’s why the Cor program provides 12 months of fully funded service, including room and board, so you can immerse yourself in this journey without financial stress.

Up to $10k in education awards.

We understand that you may carry the burden of student loans or dream of furthering your education. That’s why the Cor program offers up to $10,000 in education awards to participants upon completion of the 12-month program. These funds can be used to repay student loans, or invest in future college courses

Modest monthly stipend.

We provide a modest monthly stipend to ensure you can focus on your service, community, and spiritual journey without financial worries. This support allows you to fully engage in the experience of living in community, serving others, and growing closer to Christ through prayer and service.

Encounter Jesus in the Sacraments

At the heart of our community life is the encounter with our Lord through the Catholic Sacraments. Each day, we unite in prayer through the Liturgy of the Hours, lifting our voices together in Morning and Evening Prayer. We participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the source and summit of our faith, and spend time in weekly Eucharistic Adoration, adoring Christ present among us. In these sacred moments, we bring before Him our prayers, petitions, and gratitude, deepening our relationship with Him and grounding our mission in His grace.

How Does Cor balance service and life?

We know that dedicating a year to serve the poor is a meaningful yet demanding commitment, and we take your well-being seriously. At Cor, we’ve designed a rhythm of life that balances the busy nature of André House with intentional time for rest, growth, and adventure.

To recharge and refocus, Fridays are set aside as rest days, often reserved for community bonding and formation. Throughout the year, we’ve planned an exciting calendar that includes pilgrimages, retreats, and vacation blocks. These give you the chance to travel home, spend time with loved ones, or visit that place you’ve always dreamed of exploring.

At Cor, we understand that a thriving heart serves best. With these opportunities for renewal, you’ll have the space and support to stay energized and inspired as you live out this transformative year.
